About Jiaogulan-

Jiaogulan is loosely referred to as “Southern Ginseng” because it holds so many similar properties to true Ginseng. Jiaogulan & Ginseng share 200 of the same bioactive compounds called gypenosides & ginsenosides, the "good stuff". Unlike Ginseng, Jiaogulan doesn't require you to cycle on & off of it to retain its benefits. It’s a member of the Cucumber family, so can be considered a superfood moreso than a Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Ginseng can take years just to produce a small amount while Jiaogulan is a fast grower. When given the right attention, it can be cultivated right here in New England, which I've already begun doing. By summer of 2024 my plants will have established root systems & be transferred to a couple of remote land locations where I’ll cultivate the Jiaogulan using organic practices. I can’t wait to have a nurtured supply of my own & no longer be outsourcing it! It will make my product that much closer to home.

How I got into in this-

In 2022 I stepped away from years of alcohol abuse & partying to become conscious of my health again. In a time when many people are seeking out natural remedies in an impossible economic climate, Youtube is often the place to find the info behind it, along with fact-checks, of course. After recently moving to a new place with more room for activities, I pulled my green thumb out of storage, touched Youtube with it, and came across the late Joe Hollis of Mountain Gardens, Western NC. I learned that Joe was versed in dozens of plant species, ran his own "paradise garden" & brought this Chinese creeping vine herb, Jiaogulan, back to the States after helping to scientifically study it in the 70’s. At that time, in areas of Southern China where the herb grew plentiful, people were living longer & healthier lives in comparison to others that lacked the herb, hence why it's also referred to as the "Immortality Herb". The flavor profile of Jiaogulan itself is reminiscent of green tea & a bit sweet. The plant was originally discovered when Japanese researchers were on the hunt for a sugar substitute & it made the list for consideration. Finding out about this herb over a hot morning beverage had me pondering ways to incorporate it into my own recipe.

When Jiaogulan is paired with SGC's from-scratch Masala blend, it makes a comforting hot drink in the winter, or a cold refresher on a summer day. Although I cannot legally claim to be certified organic yet, the Jiaogulan comes straight from an organic grower in Thailand & I source fine quality black tea/spices from USDA Organic Certified suppliers. With all professional procedures followed, the tea is prepared in a sterile environment then safety sealed in eco-friendly packaging for resale.

In the last 20 years, extensive research has been conducted to investigate the medicinal prospects of Jiaogulan. These studies have confirmed the herb's potential to:

-Prevent respiratory illness

-Promote a healthy immune system

-Prevent type 2 Diabetes

-Aid liver function

-Promote cardiovascular health

-Stress fighter, acts as an adaptogen

-Anti-cancer

-Reduce inflammation

-Anti-obesity

-Boost energy & workout vigor
